OFRA

The community village of Ofra is located a comfortable 20 minute drive from Jerusalem. Along the way, residents pass the shopping center of Shaare Binyamin where they can stop in at the big, American-style Rami Levy Supermarket with an ATM machine and gas station just across the street.

Considered one of the more diverse populations in Yesha, Ofra residents hail from all over the world, including Ethiopia, The United States, Canada, India, Russia, Columbia, England and, of course, Israel. They are old and young, religious and less so, professionals, public officials, students, yeshiva “bochers” and entrepreneurs.

The various choices for education make up only one of the elements creating the popularity of this vibrant community, established in 1975.

Beginning with excellent day care and kindergarten facilities, both municipally operated and privately operated, children move on to either the public elementary school, with separate classes for boys and girls, or the private experimental school which is based upon mixed-age groups according to individual progress in each subject.

Girls are particularly fortunate to have the Ofra Ulpana campus and educational system available to them. This prize-winning school is well-known for its excellent teachers and excellent results in statewide exams and competitions.

Boys travel to the Regional School in Beit El for junior high and high school or tone of the many fine educational institutions available in the area, including Jerusalem.

An active Talmud Torah has daily classes and activities for youngsters while the Kollel specializes in Jewish Law and Court System for the more mature residents.

An exceptional post-high school option, Midreshet Shuva, under the guidance of HaRabbanit Rivka Shapira, is offered to those young women who wish to continue their education before embarking on national service. Post-national service women, including all women residents, can enjoy the weekly day of learning provided by Shuva as well as periodic special classes and events.

The extracurricular and social activities offered in this friendly community include every activity and interest imaginable and are expanded and varied every year according to resident interest. They include a variety of sports, art, lectures, religious classes, an art gallery with periodic openings, Rosh Chodesh events, outings and Bnei Akiva activities.

Community facilities include a mikveh, three synagogues, a gym, library, swimming pool, small shopping center, medical clinic, post office, grocery store and more.

Ofra is located on the Route 60 highway between Pisgat Zev and Shilo, 20 minutes from Jerusalem and less than an hour from Tel Aviv. Approximately 30 buses a day service Ofra.
