COHAV YA`ACOV

Established in 1984 by four pioneering families, named after the tsadik Rebbe Yaacov Abuhatsera, z”l, Cochav Yaacov has grown to 380 religious families between the ages of 18-80. Though the vast majority of the residents are native-born Israelis, olim from France, Argentina, Mexico and The United States are also found among their number

Residents make their living from a wide variety of pursuits including education, law, medicine, art, technical fields and others

There is a warm, quality day care center in Cochav Yaacov, in addition to three levels of kindergarten with separate groups for boys and girls and an elementary school from grades 1 through 6

High school boys learn in one of the numerous yeshiva high schools in the Jerusalem area while most of the girls learn at the Tsvia Ulpana. There is a Kollel, Nirah v’Afikim, and a hesder yeshiva, Hechal Eliyahu, within the community with a program for gaining rabbinic certification

Extracurricular activities include judo, music, drama, art, sports and religious classes for youngsters, religious classes in Hebrew, French and English for women and religious classes for men in a wide variety of frameworks including the Kollel and the hesder yeshiva

Ezra operates as the general youth movement in the community with activities for girls also provided by Banot Chayi

The gym has not only a basketball court but a fitness room with a fitness instructor available – one for men and one for women

There are four synagogues to accommodate the variety of styles of davening in the community, a Beit Midrash, Midnight Kollel under the supervision of Rabbi Atar and mikve as well as a medical clinic providing services for Maccabi, Meuhedet and Leumit members, a supermarket and a library. Residents swim in the pool of neighboring Rimonim where there are separate swimming hours set up for men and women

 

Directions:The Egged bus lines 143 and 179 run frequently every day to Cochav Yaacov

 

To drive to this community from Jerusalem, go north past Pisgat Zev and the Hizme junction. Turn left and then right at the “t” intersection near the community of Adam. The first left will take you up the hill to Cochav Yaacov
