YAKIR

The name of this religious community village, located in the western Shomron, not far from Ariel, is both from Yermiyahu and for the pilot, Yakir Naveh, z”l, who fell during his army service and for whom burial in Israel was not possible

Established in 1981, Yakir lies between the borders of the tribe of Menashe on the north and Ephraim on the south where natural springs abound feeding the lush, abundant countryside

There are 220 families here, native-born Israelis and olim who are primarily academicians making their living in the fields of education, social work, medicine and others

The quality day care center is divided into age groups with additional small, family-maintained day care options being available. Three kindergartens are provided and in the community elementary school girls and boys learn in separate classes from the first grade through the sixth grade

High school students learn in yeshiva high schools and ulpanot in Kedumim, Karnei Shomron or Revava

Extracurricular activities include ballet, judo, basketball, music lesions, fitness for women and Bnei Akiva meetings regularly. There are also sports fields for independent play and swimming pool facilities in neighboring communities

There are four minyanim in the central synagogue, two nusach ashkenaz, one sepharad and one Yemenite. Separate Torah classes are available on a regular basis for men and women separately in the Beit Midrash and a nightly class in the Kollel. A mikve rounds out the religious facilities

Public transportation is available to Yakir several times a day from Ariel

Travel time to Yakir from Petach Tikva is 40 minutes and from Ariel a mere 10 minutes
